PSC Industries seals N42.5b solar energy deal with German firm
By Roseline Okere
PSC Industries Limited, a Lagos - based company,, has signed a N42.5 billion deal with a German company, Solara AG to provide solar electricity in the country.
This agreement allows PSC Limited to distribute Solara's complete line of solar panels and solar systems to the Nigerian market.
Briefing the media yesterday in Lagos, the chief executive officer of the company, Dr. Patrick Owelle disclosed that the agreement is calculated to be worth over 250 million Euro and expected to last for over 10 years.
He added that the agreement also enables PSC Limited to distribute Solara's line of products in Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
The line of the products, Owelle explained, includes solar panels, solar lights, solar home lighting Electricity and systems for the residential areas, as well as solar power systems for the small and large enterprises market.
He said PSC Industries and Solara will develop systems for the Nigerian market in close co-operation, which provides four standard solar kits of 110W-1000W, as well as standard Mini-grid AC/Coupled system designed and developed by both firms. "These units will provide both single phase and three phase power and can be configured to whatever your electricity demands will be", he added.
He explained: "PSC industries Limited recognises the growing importance of solar electricity in the general electricity supply to Nigerian households and small to medium companies. PSC Industries Limited also recognises the importance of selling high quality products to its customers, as customers will become dependent on the electricity as supplied by solar energy systems.
"We are therefore proud to be able to provide Low cost, constant and reliable electricity to Nigeria. The days of no electricity or unreliable electricity are over. No more noisy generators, no more payment for diesel fuel, no more need to use kerosene lanterns, no more electricity bills and no more dependence on unreliable grid electricity.
"We are determined and committed to contribute and help our country to solve the electric power problem once and for all".
Owelle who said that PSC industries is based in the United States with a branch office in Nigeria, Ghana. Equatorial Guinea. Sierra Leone, Benin Republic, United Kingdom and Canada, further stated that the beauty of solar electricity is that it is a free gift from God and therefore no reason why Africa should not take advantage of it.
The system, he noted, is completely free of charge after the purchase and installation of a unit sold as low as $500 (N63,000) and capable of providing electricity to an apartment.
Speaking in a similar note, the managing director of Solara said: "We are extremely satisfied to announce PSC Limited as our partner in Nigeria. PSC and Solara share the same thoughts on the growing importance of solar energy in the Nigerian market, and on the need and the way to address the market with high performance solar panels and systems".
